Like saying, “I’m going to talk to you in MY language, as though you are a three year-old child. When I try to read old (or even just old-fashioned) English the spelling isn’t an issue, but the phrasing can make it onerous. I feel like there should be some sort of compromise solution where the articles use pidgin phrasing or, better yet, pidgin compatible phrasing that is closer to standard English, but spell the original English words. OTOH, if there is a population where pidgin is the language, then it makes sense to address the population in that language and it’s arguably condescending to assume that one language is better than the other, as languages do evolve and change and diverge. Here are some common phrases I hear/use everyday, and my subjective translation to English. Maybe not a consideration with current populations, but it limits the opportunities for future generations. To this purpose the researchers see this study as very vital to identifying how the use of pidgin contributes to this mass failure of students in Ghana. Lee has worked to challenge this deficit view of Pidgin head on, through articulating wisdom and wit in Pidgin in his writing and public engagements. how they affect speaking, adequate measures can then be taken. OTOH, it does seem almost like mockery (I had to click on a few links to make sure this wasn’t parody) and it will reduce the ability to speak and read/write in English and consequently limit employment prospects and communication with the rest of the world. Creole: A pidgin that has been expanded to fulfill all the functions. Pidgins are typically not anyones native language. Pidgin: A language that often has a simplified grammar and lexicon and that is used as a kind of lingua franca among speakers who dont share a native language. I’m not sure if pidgin is condescending or not. Synchronic: The study of language at a specific point in time. Do schools teach pidgin? I can understand people SPEAKING pidgin more comfortably than English, but if they can read, why can’t they read in English?
